We have been back from our safari with Unique for about a month. We have been meaning to write a review, but it’s hard to even know where to begin. It almost seems surreal to think about all that we experienced. But suffice it to say, my husband and I experienced things we never imagined we ever would in our lifetime, and it was made possible by Unique Safaris. In choosing our safari operator, we interviewed 3 different operators. Unique Safaris stood out to us, and although they weren’t necessarily the cheapest, we were confident that the value we were getting from them was the best.. We had a friend who is a professional photographer choose Unique about a year ago for his safari with his daughter – he is very particular, and interviewed about 20 operators before choosing Unique, so we knew that we were making the right choice. Lynn was our safari planner, and she is absolutely the best! She was patient with us with all our questions, and was always quick to respond. She helped us with questions that weren’t necessarily part of our safari, and sent us so many wonderful safari “tips”, so that we were totally prepared. We couldn’t have done it without her. Our safari was 8 days, and included Tarangire, Ngorongoro, and two locations in the Serengeti. From there, we took a bush flight to Zanzibar (we planned the rest of the trip from there). From the time we were picked up at the airport, to when our guide dropped us for our bush flight to Zanzibar, we were taken care of with the upmost of care. We had tears in our eyes as we said goodbye to our guide, Roman, who had become our friend. All of our accommodations were so much more than we expected.

They were beautiful, comfortable, amazing food, the locations were amazing, and most of all, we were cared for by the staff at all the accommodations more than we could have asked for. The people in Tanzania are so friendly and helpful, and we experienced this first hand at all our lodgings. We would wake up in the morning to wildebeest, buffalo, or giraffes grazing outside our “tents”. It was truly unbelievable. Roman was our guide, and we can’t say enough about how much he put into making our trip amazing, and making sure we always had what we needed or wanted. Since it was just my husband and I in our vehicle, we could let Roman know what we preferred as far as leaving in the morning, and returning in the evening. Yet we always trusted Roman, as he was the expert, and having been a guide for 28 years. He knew that some days we really needed to leave by 6 am in order to have the best chance of seeing what we wanted to…and he was always right! We can’t begin to list all that we saw and experienced, but we saw the Big 5, as well as TONS of other wildlife, living in their natural habitat. We came away with pictures that we never imagined we would have. Roman made our trip absolutely amazing, and took care of us as if we were his own family. We would highly recommend renting a good zoom lens – we rented a 100-400 lens, and then just used our iPhones for closeups. This worked great for us. Having a good lens was imperative to capturing the photos we got. We could go on and on – but choosing Unique Safaris was the best decision we made, and knowing that this would likely be the only safari we ever go on, we wouldn’t change a thing. It was incredible.
